General Meeting "Notes":
08/12/2002
Sarah Walker, Chairwoman

Wow,
Hi everyone, you have not heard from any of us in a long while. We have not been silent We just have not been on line and reporting. But our committee has been busy and we are finally in motion.!!!
We had a meeting last night with some of our committee members. Senator Bryan and Richard Lenz were in attendance.
I am going to highlight the meeting for all of us. To begin, as chairman I updated Senator Brian on the progress thus far with our committee. The various duties and assignments and the progress we were making with the Clark County Planning committee etc.
I then shared with the committee the communication that I had with Richard Lenz. Richard Lenz, through the "Friends of the LV Academy", has submitted a grant to assist with the restoration of the Senior Squares. The GRANT WAS APPROVED ($26,700.00). Richard Lenz reported on his conversation with Bob Stodahl and how the grant works and the reporting responsibilities.
The important point that was made was that the project has an 18 month window so as you all know this window will pass quickly.
Richard also stated that it is his intent that we the Senior Square Committee manage the project. He will take charge of the necessary reporting with regard to the Grant so that we stay qualified.
We then brainstormed on the various questions tossed around.
- Tax Deduction for donations
- Tax Deductibility of the Grant
- Sending letters to each person that has completed the Internet survey on the Registration and Information site. We have all of the contacts and will be sending out letters and e-mails to all of you have made a suggestion of donation for $$ and manpower. The decision was made to wait until after our next meeting so that we have a better idea on the overall cost of this project and the manpower efforts needed to accomplish this project.
- Senator Bryan said he will be contacting Mr. Gerye, approvals with the CCSD. and the non profitability for the Senior Square monies and maintenance funds to set up a sub account and use the CCSD tax id number? He will also discuss with him the time frames available to work on the project during the school session.
- Richard Will call Bob Stodhal and update him on the progress.
- Mark F. will call Marnell Construction inquiring on the construction costs and possible donation of time and monies. Mark also talk to Robert Curry a professional artist to paint the squares. He had been contacted previously and is very interested on this project.
- Bonnie will call Marji to discuss the progress made on the location of the missing steps and layout of the project.
We have scheduled our next meeting for August 26. Committee members I will communicate with each of you under a separate memo.
Now I have more news:
- Tony Marnell ( Marnell Construction) and a graduate from Rancho High Is going to donate 100% of the manpower - his labor employees to tear out the steps and lay the new concrete I believe this includes the materials with the exception of the concrete itself.
- Mark and Tony are making calls to various contacts they have to see about donation of the concrete or at least a portion of it. Mark also called Robert Curry and he will donate his time to paint the squares. He said our cost will be for the paint. Approx. $6,200.00.
- Bonnie has contacted Marjie Willis Holland and she is going to work on the layout of the squares and get back with us on the squares that we do not have information on. This will be very important so stay tuned on her report which I will send as soon as it is complete.
I will contact the Architects and keep them informed on our progress.
It was also discussed that we may need security guards on site 24 hours a day white the project is in production.
Well, everyone this is my report.
Please stay tuned in to the happenings.
Sarah Walker
Chairwoman
