First I want to say that the meeting was very positive and the enthusiasm to return the Squares to the original look/design is in the hearts and minds of everyone at this meeting. We told the members of this committee the background behind the squares, and the importance to all of us that the history of this school be maintained.
Elton Scheiderman spoke on the research that has been done with regards to the future grounds of the school. Bill Snyder passed out copies of the study that was completed on the condition of the Historic Fabric. A Master plan is being developed of the entire grounds. New Performing Arts Theater is planned. Idea of Closing off 9th. St. to create a campus that will flow better. Restore main building too new. Outside performance area, target completion date 2004.
Mel Green stated that the reconstruction project poses a problem. Conservation needs to be considered and reduce future damage to the buildings, squares etc.
The collection of documents - to restore to original. At the next meeting he will report on the concerns to attempt to remove the stone coating from the Steps.
Mr. Gerye reported on the historic preservation support. There was a discussion about the new LVHS involvement.
Don Ashworth stated that the new school does not need to be excluded but if they want to help that is great. But our focus is the original Las Vegas High School as our primary focus.
Mel discussed briefly on how to restore the squares.
The question arose do we have restrictions on the Squares. There was talk about moving them and scattering them about the floor of the open area. (Just ideas).

A PLEA FOR COPIES OF THE SQUARES IS IMPARATIVE!!!!

- Mr. Scheideman said that the school district will do a report on removing the gravel on the squares.
- Bill will report on how to lift the squares from the original site.
- Mr. Scheideman stated that the school district would do the restoration of the squares.
- Mr. Gerye stated the LV Academy will need our help and support to not move the school and blend the new structure with the history of the past.
- As I started out everyone is excited, eager to help and very pleased that our Senior Square Project is in existence.
- We have been asked to stay on as part of this committee.

Our next meeting is tentatively set for July 11, 2001.
