The steps started 1941 last square created 1988, We had a discussion regarding the primary issues that we face with this
project.
- Historical Registration?
- Plans for the school and property with Clark County School District.
- Any interest in this project by the new Las Vegas High School.
- Union Pacific Railroad - is there a reversionary clause in the property?
We discussed some ideas on restoring this project.
Suggestions:
- Recreate the steps in a granite coating recreating the steps to their original look.
- Cut the squares at the joints remove and repair the squares making the smaller and to recreate the squares to their original look.
- Create a scholarship fund in memory of the classmates represented by the squares. and not restore the at all.
- Tear-up and Mosaic each square making them a little smaller to include all of the graduating years.
- Create an upright monument that is a replica of the squares as a memory to the Past and traditions.
- Build a Museum for Las Vegas High and collect all of the memorabilia that we and other have. Place a monument outside of Museum ***(this was a well received idea).
Volunteers:
- Don Ashworth is going to contact the School Board Trustee to inquire on the
plan for the school with respect to the original property? (rumors that the
buildings have structural problems and a new site for relocation of the
Academy school?)
- Don will also contact Brian Cramm - support of the project or are we wasting
our time?
- Don will also be contacting a good friend of his - Union Pacific Railroad
General Counsel. Inquire into their interest in this property etc.
- Gary Vause will investigate if the property has National Historic Registration and inquire if the property is listed on the National Registry - This will help to identify with the roadblocks & restrictions that we may be
facing and validate the property interest.
- Margi Holland will obtain a Title Search of the property - research if there is a reversionary clause or restrictions to the property.
- Laura Dillon: She will call the New LVHS and inquire into the interest if any with the school support.
- Patty Hack: will be contacting Frank Wright - Curator of the Nevada State Museum - Maybe the museum can be located with the State Museum.
- Bonnie will call the New LVHS and the Las Vegas Academy to inquire on where the old trophies to display them somewhere with respect to the restoration project and a LVHS museum.
